GT Co. Beach Facing Big Changes
A popular beach in Grand Traverse County could soon see some big changes.
Some people who live in Peninsula Township came out to protest a plan to turn Haserot Beach into a DNR boat launch.
It’s one of three spots the DNR is looking at.
The state paid $2.5 million for a piece of property near the beach but now needs additional funding to dredge it into a boat launch.
Haserot was once voted one of the state’s top ten most beautiful beaches, and now could be taken away.
John Jacobs, an Old Mission resident, said “I think it’s going to be harmful to the area we have a traffic problem already in the area. There are just too many people on the busy summer days coming into the area to use haserot beach has. And by opening yet another facility we’ll be drawing even more traffic into the area.”
Peninsula township only has three public access boat launches; two on East Bay, including a one-lane ramp at Haserot beach, and one on West Bay near Bowers Harbor.
