Grand Traverse Co. Approves Water Shuttle Service to Power Island

You may have seen Power Island from afar in Grand Traverse Bay, but now there’s an easy way to visit the island.

Grand Traverse County approved a new water shuttle service.

If you would like to get to Power Island all you have to do is arrange a time with the county’s Parks and Recreation Department.

Their boat allows people who don’t have one to enjoy Power Island and the park.

“It’s such a fabulous park with high elevation in the middle and wood land all around, nice beaches, six miles of nature trails. It’s a terrific place and a lot of people have just never been there because they don’t have a boat,” said Fred Tank, a Power Island Park Ranger.

The boat can hold up to six people.

It takes you from the Bowers Harbor DNR dock to the island.

The fee is $30 for the first rider of a group and $15 for each additional rider. Interested travelers can contact the Grand Traverse County Parks and Recreation at (231)922-4818 to make ferry reservations.
