Camp Gives Kids Real World, Hands On Experience

Two schools in Cadillac are taking summer camp to a whole new level.

550 kids from seven local schools will be busy over the next few days at Baker College’s College “4” Kids camp and the Wexford-Missaukee Career Technical Centers’ summer camp.

There won’t be any kumbaya around the campfire at these camps- the kids are participating in activities like welding, robotics, cooking, and scrap booking.

The camps give kids as young as first grade a hands on experience.

“We want them to be exposed to these opportunities that are no cost to them, sooner than later, get them interested in a field, and then, not that it’s narrowing, but it’s pretty overarching, give them an idea, let them explore,” says Wexford-Missaukee CTC Director, David Cox.

The camps have been taking place for ten years, and have added art, fishing, and poetry camps for the first time this year.
