UPDATE: Deadly Shooting at Seattle Pacific University

Seattle Pacific University has confirmed the identity of the student who stopped a gunman on campus.

Jon Meis, a student building monitor, was on duty when Aaron Ybarra entered the campus building Thursday and started shooting.

One person was killed and two others were wounded before Meis pepper-sprayed Ybarra while he was reloading his gun.

Police say Meis and several other students subdued the shooter before police got there.

“Regular citizens stepped up and tried to do the right thing and in this case, I believe they prevented a more horrible tragedy than it was,” said Assistant Seattle Police Chief Paul McDonagh.

Thursday night hundreds packed a Methodist church on the campus for a prayer service.

Seattle Pacific is a Christian university with more than 4,000 students.
