VA Secretary Eric Shinseki Resigns

Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki has resigned.

President Obama accepted the resignation with “considerable regret” in a meeting in the Oval Office Friday morning.

Several lawmakers from both parties had been calling for Shinseki to resign.

Shinseki is a retired four-star Army general who had been in charge of the VA since the beginning of President Obama’s time in office.

President Obama named Deputy Secretary Sloan Gibson to be temporarily in charge of the VA.
