Detroit Group Hosts Alternative Mackinac Policy Conference
A group of young twenty something’s seeking change in Detroit created their own version of the Mackinac Policy Conference.
It’s called Assemble at Mackinac (ish). They came up with the name because the group, Assemble, decided they could still put together a meaningful event without paying the ticket price of the conference.
The alternative conference was held at a barn in Hayes Township in Charlevoix County.
They looked to host an open environment to discuss the same policy issues discussed at the conference. They live stream the conference, then hold their own discussions.
Leaders say things like policy transparency were a major discussion topic.
9&10’s Alyssa Gambla and photojournalist Erin Malone have more details on how the group is trying to get their voices heard around the state.
