President Obama Outlines New Future For U.S. Foreign Policy

With graduation season in full swing, President Obama is set to deliver a commencement address at the nation’s premiere military academy.

In his speech, he will outline a new future for U.S. foreign policy.

It follows Tuesday’s announcement to bring most of the troops home from Afghanistan.

As part of his withdrawal plan, nearly 33,000 troops currently in the Middle East would be reduced to 10,000 at the start of next year.

That number would be cut in half by the end of 2015.

“We can not only responsibly end our war in Afghanistan and achieve the objectives that took us to war in the first place. We’ll also be able to begin a new chapter in the story of American leadership around the world.”

But, top republicans are criticizing the president’s plan.

They say his decision to set an aarbitrarydate for withdrawal is a mistake.

As of now, Afghan president, Hamid Karzai, has not signed a security agreement needed to keep the limited number of U.S. troops in his country.
