DNR Prepared for Elevated Fire Danger This Week
Wildfires remain a threat, as dry conditions stick around the rest of this week.
Most of Northern Michigan was under a moderate to high threat level for wildfires on Tuesday.
According to the Department of Natural Resources, the weather forecast over the next few days could keep them busy. This is actually the worst time of year for fires as there are a lot of fuels on the ground like dead leaves and grass.
In case of a fire, the DNR will have extra crews available.
To avoid the risk of fire, burn permits aren’t expected to be issued later this week, so it’s important to check before you burn.
However, when burning is allowed, the DNR says to have rakes, shovels, and water available in case the fire escapes.
