Crews Investigating Emmet Co. Apartment Fire

Investigators are still trying to figure out what started a fire at an apartment complex.

The flames broke out Monday morning at the Crooked River Apartments in Alanson.

When fire crews arrived, they could see smoke and flames coming from the first and second floor balcony.

More than a dozen units were evacuated. Three units were destroyed and 15 others remain empty while repairs are done.

Families say they woke up around 3 a.m. Monday morning to people moving around upstairs. When they looked outside, they saw flames and ash everywhere.

Several tenants rushed to wake up other people in the building to make sure everyone got out safely. No one was hurt.

All 16 units were evacuated, and agencies like the Red Cross are helping relocate families and give them shelter.

Families say they are grateful everyone was able to get out.
