Lawyer Involved in 2007 GT County Meijer Recall Cleared

A lawyer who is accused of lying under oath in a 2007 Meijer recall case has been cleared.

The recall stemmed from an ongoing dispute between Meijer and Grand Traverse County’s Acme Township.

Meijer wanted to build a store on M-72 and Lautner Road, but what they planned did not meet board members’ requirements.

The case eventually went to court and the judge upheld Acme Township’s decision.

Last year, the Michigan Attorney Grievance Commission said Timothy Stoepker wasn’t truthful when asked during a deposition about his knowledge of Meijer’s activities when he represented them.

Voters rejected the store in 2005, and township officials were targeted for recall two years later.
