Millions of Dollars Going to Chippewa County Airport Repairs

The Chippewa County International Airport is getting nearly $3.4 million in grants to update it’s runway.

The money will help replace the cement surface on the main runway with asphalt at the runway in Kincheloe.

Chippewa County International Airport manager Tami Beseau says the work will provide a substantial impact to the local community by improving safety and security at the airport by replacing the cement surface on the main runway with asphalt. She says it will also help thousands of families and travelers get to and from Chippewa and the whole Upper Peninsula this summer vacation season.

Delta Airlines flights will be unavailable from June 2 through June 22 when the work is done.

Michigan U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin say the work will boost business activity and tourism.
