Lafranier Road Project Postponed Until 2015

A major project for a rough road in Grand Traverse County has been postponed due to lack of funding from the county.

The Lafranier Road project is a $2 million job, and with recent budget issues, the county can’t afford to partner with the Road Commission and Garfield Township right now to share the cost.

The original plan for the project was to fix it from the hill, to Hammond Road.

Now, they want to do more, but it comes at a cost.

The Road Commission has applied for some state funding that could help them at least start the project this year, but the entire project can’t be completed until 2015.

“It’s a project that’s really ready to go if we just had the money, so if we get lucky and we get that funding, then we would probably move forward with the hill to Hammond this year,” said Jim Cook of the Grand Traverse County Road Commission.

The Road Commission says once the project does get underway, they’ll add bike lanes and cut the hill down, to make it a safer road for everyone.
