DOT Announces Proposals to Aid Travel Choices

The Department of Transportation is proposing new rules to make it easier for travelers to know exactly how much it will cost them to fly.

The rules would force airlines to disclose fees for things like checked bags, carry on bags and assigned seats.

The disclosure rules would include tickets sold on websites, in the phone, and in person.

The transportation secretary says the information will help Americans make better travel choices.

The public can comment on the proposal for the next three months.
