Feedback at 5:00: Swim Safety

As temperatures begin to climb and we approach the long Memorial Day weekend, many are excited to get out and enjoy Northern Michigan’s many swimming spots.

But there’s also a risk involved, too.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 37% of American adults cannot safely swim the length of a pool.

A new American Red Cross survey shows only 56% of adults who say they can swim, cannot perform critical water safety skills that could save their lives. This includes floating or treading water for a minute without a flotation device, getting out of a pool without a ladder, or jumping into water over your head and coming back to the surface.

Can you and your family members safely swim?

It’s today’s Feedback at 5:00.
