Avoid Losing Your Plants to Frost
While the frost may hit areas of Northern Michigan tonight, nurseries are telling people to bring in their plants or to cover them up.
They recommend something lightweight to cover the plants especially the delicate flowers. If you’re on a budget you can go to the thrift store and buy bed sheets too.
They say to avoid using plastic. “Old sheets, bed sheets, blankets, if you use plastic that transfers the cold right into the plant itself so it will freeze through the plastic so you don’t want to use plastic,” explains Mary Willson, owner of Willson’s Garden Center.
Nurseries say getting plants too cold could stunt their growth.
This time of year pansies and snapdragons are good flowers to grow because they are better at withstanding the cold.
