Top Ten Compete For TC Chamber’s 2014 Hagerty Small Business of the Year Award

Ten small businesses were recognized by the Traverse City Chamber of Commerce this morning.

It’s the 10th annual breakfast where the community can meet the finalists in the chamber’s 2014 Hagerty Small Business of the Year Award.

This year’s Top Ten features companies from all different industries:

– Bright Star Care
– Captain’s Quarters
– Celtic Transportation Services
– Culver Meadows
– Lochenheath Golf Club
– Mad Mike’s Computer Services
– Northwest Michigan Surgery Center
– Oryana
– Short’s Brewing Company
– Williams & Bay Pumping Services

As finalists, each has proven to be in good financial health, have strong employee relations, and overall vitality.

These ten have been narrowed down from 200 nominees.

The chamber says trying to pick just one of hundreds is a good problem to have.

Chief Operating Officer Laura Oblinger says, “Across the nation sixty percent of our jobs come from small businesses but if you take that into Northern Michigan about ninety percent of our jobs come from small businesses. So this is what drives our economy so its really important that we stop and recognize them.”

Today finalists faced questions from the judges.

On May 29th, the chamber will announce which one will take home the top prize.
