Mt. Pleasant Police Investigating City-Wide Graffiti

THE VANDALS HAVE BEEN TARGETING BUSINESSES AROUND MOUNT PLEASANT.

THEY ALSO TAGGED A UTILITY BOX AND THE HIGH STREET BRIDGE.

POLICE SAY THE VANDALS ARE MAKING THEIR MARK ALL OVER THE CITY, AND THEY HOPE THE PUBLIC CAN HELP TRACK DOWN THE CRIMINAL SPRAY-PAINT ARTISTS.

Police say the graffiti has been popping up over the past week and a half, and they want it stopped.

The vandals have been targeting businesses around Mount Pleasant.

They also tagged a utility box and the High Street bridge.

“It’s everything from the alleyways to businesses, there’s not just one area or another,” explained Jeff Browne, an officer with the Mount Pleasant Police Department.

 Businesses like Central Real Estate, who say this graffiti wasn’t there when they closed up late Tuesday night.  

“It happened sometime between those twelve hours.”

It was certainly something they didn’t expect to come upon when they arrived at work Wednesday morning. 

“Shock, really,” said David Zamarron, the co-owner, “we’ve been here 32 years and have never had an act of vandalism before. We’re just not used to these kinds of things happening and we’re less than 500 feet from the Public Safety building where the police are based.”

 Police say the vandals are striking in the late evening or early morning, when few people are around. 

“It looks like they are using spray paint, what the symbols are, doesn’t mean anything necessarily to us, it’s very hard to tell what it is because it’s art to them. It’s not necessarily like a gang sign, and that’s what a lot of folks concern is,” said Browne.

While police keep an eye out for the vandals, business owners are left to clean up the crime. 

“Find a better use for your time, it’s costing us time and money to take care of what they might think is art but to us, it’s cost and aggravation.”

They are offering a reward that leads to an arrest.
