Man Pleads No Contest to Charges Stemming from Big Rapids Shooting

A Detroit man charged with shooting a Ferris State University student on February first pleaded no contest to assault and weapons charges. De-Cory Downing entered the plea Monday, meaning he does not admit guilt, but accepts the punishment. Downing originally faced 17 charges, including attempted murder. The victim was treated and released from a Grand Rapids hospital the following day. Downing is scheduled back in court for sentencing on June 9th.
