Michigan DEQ Updates Rules, Regulations For Hydraulic Fracking
Michigan’s Department of Environmental Quality is updating it’s rules and regulations linked to hydraulic fracking.
It’s a technique used to extract natural gas and oil from underground.
The DEQ’s changes focus on high-volume fracking, which uses more water than older methods.
They include requiring baseline water well testing in the area before high-volume fracking can begin.
Another requires full disclosure of types and volumes of chemicals being injected into the ground.
