Feedback at 5:00: Seat Belts On New School Buses?
When most students get on the school bus, they don’t buckle up.
They sit in high, padded seats to protect them.
But a new proposal in Michigan’s legislature would require all new school buses to have seat belts.
Under the legislation, school districts would foot the bill to make the changes.
State Representative Robert Kosowski says students should be required to wear seat belts on buses.
But, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says seat belts on school buses would do little to reduce serious injuries or deaths in serious front-end crashes.
It says seat belts could actually increase the risk for neck and abdominal injuries.
Do you think Michigan should require students to wear seat belts on the bus?
