Crews Cleaning Up After Isabella Co. Sawmill Fire

Northern Michigan’s News Leader is at the scene of a fire at Maeder Brothers Sawmill.

The fire started around 5:30 AM at the main operating building on Weidman Road in Isabella County.

The fire chief says no one was inside the building when the fire started. Nine fire departments are working together to put it out.

It’s unclear how the fire started.

The fire here is out and the focus is clean up.

Crews are working hard to remove steel siding and equipment and machinery that was inside the sawmill.

The Nottawa- Sherman Fire Chief tells 9&10 News that because of all the wood and oils in the sawmill, it kept refueling itself, making it virtually impossible to save the building.

Meredith Barack also spoke to the operations manager who says they will rebuild, and none of their employees will lose their jobs because of the fire.

You’ll hear more from him on 9&10 News at 5:00 and 6:00.
