Michigan DOC Fines Prison Food Vendor Nearly $100K

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — The Michigan Department of Corrections fined its prison food vendor nearly $100,000 for a number of violations.

Aramark is being ordered to pay $98,000.

The state says the company made unauthorized menu substitutions, didn't make the right number of meals, and some employees had improper contact with inmates.

The Department of Corrections says most of those incidents involve Aramark employees and inmates exchanging notes, and at least one case of an employee kissing an inmate.

Aramark says they are committed to resolving issues quickly.
