Co-Founder of VASA Dies at 92
Friends and family of the co-founder of the North American VASA cross country ski event are mourning his death.
Roy Theodore Okerstrom, better known as Ted, passed away Friday night.
His death came just hours before the start of the 38th annual race he helped create.
Okerstrom co-founded the race nearly 40 years ago, as a way to bring more people to the Traverse City area.
Since VASA's start, people from all over the world have participated and attended the event.
Okerstrom was struggling with his health prior to his death.
A funeral will not be scheduled this week, but later in the spring.
Roy Theodore Okerstrom was 92 years old.
