Wertz Warriors Ride for Special Olympics
Every year the group takes on the endurance ride to raise enough money to completely offset the costs of the entire Winter Olympics.
The Wertz Warriors ride began on Sunday in Skidway Lake.
They will stop in Traverse City tonight as they continue to ride to Petoskey by Saturday night.
This year the games will cost $286,000.
Whatever extra is raised by the group is put away in a restricted fund with a good chunk of it going back to local Special Olympic teams in the form of grants.
The biggest problem for the Warriors is the dwindling size and growing age of their group recruiting new members is a must.
