Levering Man Turns Himself in On Charges of Being an Accessory to Murder

This morning a man turned himself in. He is accused of being an accessory to the murder of a northern Michigan man.

John Ernst turned himself into the Emmet County Sheriffs Department this morning. This is in connection to the murder of Lyle Kopenkoskey in 2012.

Police say Ernst helped Kopenkoskey's wife Carol get rid of the gun used in the 2012 murder.

They say Carol Kopenkoskey told investigators about the help Ernst gave her.

Carol took a plea deal 2 weeks ago, pleading guilty to 2nd degree murder.

Ernst is now charged with 6 counts of lying under oath, and one count of being an accessory after the fact to a felony.
