Northern Michigan Town Shocked to Hear School Secretary Stole From School
A Missaukee County woman is accused of embezzling thousands of dollars from a local school.
The prosecutor says Dawn Boonstra stole funds collected for student fundraisers.
Boonstra was a long-time secretary for McBain Public Schools.
The sheriff says this investigation started in December after the school discovered some discrepancies during an audit of some monies that were missing.
She turned herself in last week and was charged yesterday for embezzling more than $1,000 but less than $20,000.
And for former students who saw the long-time secretary every day, it's a lot to take in.
Boonstra will be back in court next month.
