Two People Die From Influenza In Southeastern Michigan

YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) — Two people have died from the flu in Washtenaw County.

Public health officials are reporting that two people over the age of 65 with underlying health conditions have died.

The county says there were 8 flu-related deaths and 199 hospitalizations in Washtenaw County last year.

Officials recommend getting the seasonal flu vaccine for everyone six months and older.

Reported December 30 by the Michigan Department of Community Health that a child who had not been vaccinated died from the flu.

Flu season peaks normally between January and April. 

The first case of the flu in Michigan for the 2013-2014 season was reported in October.
