Isabella County Holds Highest Poverty Percentage in State

Fifty years ago, President Johnson declared a War on Poverty.

It's a war still raging today.

According to the most recent census, Isabella County actually has the highest rate of people living under the poverty line of any county in Michigan.

Major metro counties around Detroit and Flint have many more impoverished people but when it comes to percentages, 28 % of Isabella County lives under the poverty line.

It's surprising for a county that seems to offer plenty of businesses capable of carrying a successful workforce but organizations are still fighting to end the problem for good.

9&10 News' Eric Lloyd and photojournalist Tony Zyber looked into the high rates and have more details.
