Pets Require Extra Care in Cold Weather

As the mercury continues to fall, it's important to look out for your four-legged friends.

9&10 News spoke with Meyer Veterinarian Clinic of Cadillac.

Dr. Allen Meyer says in these temperatures dogs with short hair need a coat to keep warm. It is also important to clean salt and ice off their paws when they come in or use dog boots.

According to Dr. Meyer, dogs that live outside need a warm dog house and extra food for the loss of heat from their body.

He also says indoor-outdoor cats should be kept inside.

The Meyer Veterinarian Clinic is also looking for a warm home for Penny. She's a 10-month-old pitbull mix.
