Michigan Offers More Health Care Choices To Those Facing Cancellations

In this health care update — Michigan is offering more choices to people who buy their own insurance and are facing cancellations.

The Department of Insurance and Financial Services says one-year extensions will give people more time, and allow state health insurers the option to extend policies that do not meet the federal health care overhaul requirements.

Currently, 225,000 policies in Michigan fall short of the minimum coverage standards.

We've also learned that Blue Cross, Blue Shield of Michigan and the Blue Care Network will transition current individual subscribers into its “keep fit” program, which is the only pre-Obamacare individual health plan to remain in force through 2014.
