New Details in Attempted Apartment Explosion Case
We know more details Tuesday about the man accused of trying to blow up his Traverse City apartment building.
Police responded to Bay Hill Apartments in Traverse City early Monday morning.
At the scene, they say Joseph Elliott admitted to trying to blow up his apartment — and the entire building.
He told police he turned on the gas on his stove, hoping the apartment would fill with gas, then ignite.
Court documents show Elliott told police he was hearing voices in his head.
He thought even if he went to jail — then people there would have to take care of him.
He also told police he went to the hospital the day before, and was cleared.
Elliott was in court for a bond-setting Tuesday. Bond was set at $50,000.
Elliott is expected to be charged Wednesday with attempted arson and will undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
