Grand Traverse County to Decide Budget Cuts

Grand Traverse County has less than a month to finalize the 2014 budget – and cuts need to be made.

But  the Board of Commissioners are divided as to which department should see funds taken away.

The two departments mentioned over the past two weeks: the Sheriff's department and the Parks and Recreation department.

Chairman of the Board Herb Lemcool says at this time no final decisions have been made.

He says Thursday night the board will meet to go over the budget line by line to see where programs could afford to be cut.

There will also be a presentation by a representative from Baird and Company to discuss whether the county could afford to do a bond rather than cut funding.

Lemcool says his goal for a finalized budget is December 1, 2013.
