Cadillac Factory Fire Considered Suspicious

An old, abandoned factory destroyed by flames is being considered suspicious.

The Mitchell-Bentley building on Wright street in Cadillac was reduced to rubble when fire broke out late Sunday night.

The call came in around 10:45 p.m. and fire crews battled 30 foot high flames and billowing smoke for more than 12 hours.

Police blocked off roads from Wright and Third Streets as they worked through the night to put out the flames.

Monday morning crews were still on scene putting out any remaining hotspots, but around noon the fire was out.

Witnesses say the intensity and size of the fire was unbelievable, and they're glad crews were able to stop it from spreading to nearby buildings and homes.

The Cadillac Fire Captain tells 9&10 News that the fire seems suspicious because there were no utilities connected to the building. The point of origin has been narrowed down to the south side of the building. Fire inspectors are working to determine a cause.

9&10's Breelynn Martin and Photojournalist Jake Johnson were on the scene.
