Stay Safe Next Time You Head To The Beach

The warm temperatures have people across northern Michigan heading to the beach to stay cool, but there are some important things to remember next time you hit the beach.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, its important to pack umbrellas for shade, put on sun block to protect your skin, bring life jackets for those who need them, and have lots of water available.

The Coast Guard also says it's important for people to watch out for heat related illness. Headaches, lightheadedness, dizziness, nausea are all signs to be on the lookout for because they can ultimately lead to heat stroke.

Beach goers also need to remember that even though the temperature is very warm, the cooler Great Lakes can cause hypothermia if your exposed for extended periods of time, according to the U. S. Coast Guard.
