UPDATE: Emmet County Cooking Oil Spill

We have an update from Emmet County where used cooking oil recently leaked into the Crooked River.

It happened Tuesday night when a pick-up truck and a semi truck hauling the oil collided in Alanson.

The semi rolled and spilled more than 1,500 gallons.

Cleaning crews responded, working to not only contain the oil but to remove it.

Now the DNR wants everyone to know what to do if they come across any wildlife that has oil on it.

If you are concerned about the animal call the DNR or a wildlife rehabilitator before moving it.

The DNR says since this is cooking oil, if an animal were to ingest it, it is not toxic like petroleum.
