Update: 85,000 Bridge Cards Affected by Error are Restored

Update: As of 11:22 AM Saturday, all 85,000 of the impacted Bridge Cards were restored.

On Thursday, 9&10 News learned that Bridge Card users with account numbers ending in “0,” would not be able to use their card for a while.

The Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget Spokesman, Kurt Weiss said the issue was caused by an employee error.

The 85,000 recipients of food assistance benefits discovered Thursday that money was not on their cards, as expected.

The issue affected about 10% of the 1.8 million people in Michigan, using a Bridge Card.

State employees worked throughout the night, Friday, to resolve the problem.

DTMB Spokesperson Kurt Weiss says, they “…understand the hardship that this situation has caused Michigan families and the inconvenience to businesses that serve them.”

Weiss also says, “DTMB regrets that this problem has occurred and will be working ensure that safeguards are put in place to prevent a similar error in the future.”

The company works closely with vendor partners to ensure the Bridge Cards are correctly filled with the benefits that are needed for food assistance.
