Police Downstate Increase Patrol on I-96 Since Serial Shootings

Police downstate increased patrols on I-96 since the serial shooter first struck over two weeks ago.

And, that presence was especially noticeable Saturday, with the big crowds on hand in East Lansing for the Michigan State, Nebraska game.

Police patrols were noticeable at the turnarounds on the highway.

Other police vehicles weren't so noticeable.

But, while officials say they want drivers to be aware of their surroundings, they say there's no need to change their routines.

But, drivers were wary.

The extra patrols are stretching the overtime budget of the Ingham County Sheriff's Office, but the sheriff says he hopes to have at least some costs reimbursed by the Federal Government.
