Area School Districts Hope for Good Attendance on Student Count Day
The more students who roam school halls today mean more dollars for public schools. Today's count day serves as many Michigan district's primary source of funding for the year.
At districts like Kingsley, every student really impacts their budget. Last fall the state changed how the system works; now fall count day accounts for 90% of the school's aid, and winter count day only accounts for 10%. While being in school today is important, Kingsley's Superintendent says there are ways to make up for an absence on count day.
