Fugitive Search Puts Schools into Secure Mode
A peaceful ending to a fugitive search in Manistee County, today.
The search for the armed man had Manistee Area Schools in secure mode for most of the day.
After searching for hours, police found the man on the border of Manistee, Lake, and Mason Counties just West of Wellston, this afternoon.
He's accused of committing a sex crime, Sunday.
Relatives led police to the wooded area today, where they believed the armed man was hiding.
Several nearby agencies got into position, guarding the 10-square-mile perimeter.
After 4 hours, the man surrendered.
Sgt. Travis House of the Michigan State Police, Cadillac post, told 9 and 10 News, “The suspect's relatives were able to make contact with him and help us to make contact with him and eventually, a peaceful end came to it when he turned himself in.”
The man is currently in the Manistee County Jail and will be formally charged, tomorrow.
