Tigers recall LHP Drew Smyly to start Saturday

DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Tigers recalled left-handed pitcher Drew Smyly from Triple-A Toledo to start in the second game of a series against the Los Angeles Angels.

Detroit optioned right-hander Luke Putkonen to Toledo to make room for Smyly on the roster following Friday night's 2-1 loss to the Angels.

Smyly has been on the disabled list with a strained muscle in his right side. He was 4-3 with a 4.42 ERA in 15 starts this season.

Putkonen, a rookie, was 0-2 with a 6.52 ERA in seven games this season for the Tigers.
