New Radar in Grand Traverse County Records Speed, Snaps Photos
If you're driving more than 15 miles per hour over the speed limit, a new radar could catch you on camera.
The device is the first of its kind in Grand Traverse County.
The Sheriff says the radar will not issue tickets.
It will instead be used as a source of information for local law enforcement.
Police can compile the pictures and data to help them target problem areas and keep an eye out for problem drivers.
The radar is portable and can be attached to any speed limit sign in the county, giving the Sheriff's Department an extra set of eyes out on the road.
The camera can also snap photos if someone tries to tamper with the sign.
Alex Jokich and photojournalist Jacob Johnson looked into the futuristic features of the new radar and have more details.
