Northern Michigan City First American City to Become “Sister Cities” With Canadian City
A special day for a Michigan city today, making it the first of its kind in the entire country.
Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan is the first ever American city to become “sister cities” with a Canadian city, pairing up with Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
It's a mostly ceremonial distinction, but the connection is an important one.
The Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan mayor says despite the international boundary between the 2 cities, they cooperate very well and have a strong bond.
The Sister City Agreement coincides with the international bridge's 50th anniversary, as another way the Soo's are connected.
