Emmet County: Dark Park in Mackinaw City

With the nice summer weather we've had so far, its an ideal time to get out and do some star gazing.

While August means the end of our cherished summer months, it does bring Northern Michigan some fantastic stargazing.

Its a busy month at the Emmet County International Dark Sky Park in Mackinaw City.

The park is gearing up for a meteor shower event on Sunday, when conditions are expected to bring out some of the best gazing of the year.

Park directors say during August the Milky way is in the perfect spot for great viewing and the park is an excellent spot.

The International Dark Sky Park is one of only nine similar parks in the world.
