State Permit No Longer Required For Beach Grooming

Beach-front property owners on the Great Lakes are now able to groom their beach with fewer restrictions.

Governor Snyder approved a new law, allowing property owners to use hand tools or machines to remove invasive plants and weeds without a state permit.

Supporters say the change will mean cleaner, safer beaches for people to enjoy.

But, some conservation groups say the new law was passed too quickly, and puts local control efforts at risk.

Property owners will still need approval from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
