Feedback at 5:00- Should May Elections Stay?

Yesterday some voters showed up to vote in local elections.

May elections are all about local decisions and many ballot questions revolve around school decisions, from school boards to millage votes and bond proposals. In the past schools have come out strongly to defend May elections.

But turnout is typically extremely low. For example, one precinct in Petoskey reported about 15 percent turnout. And these elections still cost municipalities time and money.

From time to time there are proposals to do away with May elections to save money and consolidate them into November elections when there are typically state issues that galvanize higher voter turnout.

What do you think, should we keep May elections or do away with them? Why or why not?
