Bringing Back East Bay’s ‘Miracle Mile’

It used to be called the 'Miracle Mile.'  Now, there's a movement to improve the US-31/M-72 corridor in East Bay Township.

The stretch of road was the topic of discussion at Monday's township meeting.  The township board heard plans to create a Corridor Improvement Authority as part of township government.  The plan involves adding sidewalks, pedestrian crossings and an outdoor venue for festivals and movies.

The township board and those in favor of creating the Corridor Improvement Authority said they were surprised and disappointed with the overwhelming opposition from the public at the meeting.

The board has 60 days to review the proposal and make a decision.  If they do approve the improvement authority the next step is to create a plan with goals and a financial plan.

9&10's Ann Marie LaFlamme and photojournalist Joel Deaner were there and they have the details.
