Farmers Preparing to Plant Record Corn Crop

While it may be too early to plant, many farmers have been preparing their fields to plant a record-setting corn crop this year.

The U.S.D.A. expects a four percent increase in the acres of corn planted nationwide. If those numbers hold that would be the most planted since 1937.

An increasing global demand for corn and the growing popularity of ethanol has made corn one of the most profitable crops.

MSU extension says they do not recommend planting until May 1st at the earliest. Even then there is still a risk of losing the crop to frost.

9 and 10's Kyle Mitchell and Photojournalist Jacob Johnson explain why more fields will be growing corn.
