Sault Ste. Marie Man Changes Plea in Explosives Case
A Sault Ste. Marie man has withdrawn his guilty plea in a case against him.
Authorities say that John Lechner had enough explosives in his home to equal the firepower in the Oklahoma City bombing.
Earlier in his trial Lechner had reached a deal with prosecutors, in exchange for his plea to an explosives possession charge, four other counts were dismissed.
After changing his plea Lechner will now face the additional charges.
He was arrested in September after Chippewa County officials say Lechner had asked someone to help him move a large quantity of ammonium nitrate il.
Authorities have not accused Lechner of planning to detonate the mixture.
