Grand Traverse Metro Fire Receives Thousands in Grant Money for New, Indoor Sprinkler System

Firemen are usually protecting you from a fire, but one fire station in northern Michigan hasn't had the proper system to protect themselves. Grand Traverse Metro Fire just received a $36,000 grant from FEMA and the Department of Homeland Security to install sprinklers and new alarms inside one of their stations that was built in the 1980's when the system wasn't a requirement.

The fire chief says they have firemen living there and they need to be protected.

When Metro Fire wrote the grant, they hoped for new fire gear and fitness equipment, too; but the portion they received will only cover the sprinklers and alarms.
