EAST LANSING – The Morley Stanwood ladies won a Volleyball State Title in the fall, and they added their first ever Girls Basketball State Title to the trophy case Saturday afternoon.

The Mohawks overcame a 42 point effort from Miss Basketball Madison Ristovski to beat Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett 61-57.

The Knights took an early lead, but a 9-2 Mohawk run put Morley in charge for the rest of the quarter.  The Mohawks led 18-13 at the end of the 1st.

After leading by as much as six, Haleigh Ristovski's triple from WAY beyond the three point line gave the Knights a 23-22 lead and capped off an 8-0 run for University Liggett.  However, Morley went on 8-0 run of their own later in the 2nd, and went into halftime with a 33-26 lead.

Morley pushed its lead to as much as eight early in the 3rd Quarter.  However, Madison Risotvski's steal and three-point-play on the other end gave the Knights a 42-40 lead with a little under three minutes to play.

Alexis Huntey immediately followed that up with a triple to snap a 12-2 Knights run and give the lead back to the Mohawks.  However, Ristovski's 12 points in the 3rd Quarter helped the Knights take a 46-45 lead into the final stanza.

The teams exhanged baskets in the first few minutes of the 4th Quarter, then remained tied at 55 for a while.  Alexis Huntey missed a wide-open layup midway in the 4th, but on the next possession hit a triple to give the Mohawks a 58-55 lead.

It was primarily keepaway and free throws for the Mohawks after that.
